About the Job

Qualifications:  Have or will attend professional food handler’s course for certification.  Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.  For purposes of effective communication with residents, families and staff must be able to see, hear, speak, read and write English.  Maintain the ability to stretch, push, pull, kneel, reach, twist, walk and stand for up to sixteen (16)  hours, up to three (3) times per week.  Must demonstrate the ability to lift unassisted at least thirty five (35) lbs.  Must be 18 years of age or older.

1.     Follow menus and production schedule as posted.  Prepare food by standardized recipe with optimum and consistent quality of appearance, texture, taste and temperature. 

2.     Prepare correct quantity of food with appropriate number of servings for assigned house and serve correct portion sizes following food textures, therapeutic diets and special meal card instructions. 

3.     Stock food supplies; seal, date and label correctly.  Inform supervisor of sudden deficiencies in inventory.

4.     Demonstrate a working knowledge of safety, utilizing equipment in a safe manner by following instructions for operation and care.  Report any and all problems to supervisor.

5.     Demonstrate a working knowledge of sanitation and infection control standards and of 64E-11 regulations.  Document temperatures for refrigeration units, dishwashers and food.

6.     Follow snack lists and distribute to houses; seal, date and label.

7.     Serve meals on time and assist in dining room during service of meals. Promote quality of life for residents by providing choices and family-style dining.

8.     Ensures residents’ rights and promotes optimal quality of life standards.  Reports any incident of abuse in accordance with facility procedure and the Disabled Persons Abuse Negligence Act.  Adheres to policies related to boundaries with individuals. Attends required abuse risk management training. Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.  Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising individuals.

9.     Ensure that Federal, State, County and company regulations are implemented and maintained.  Correct facility deficiencies as needed.

10.  Supervise food service workers as directed.

11.  Demonstrates understanding of, and complies with, all policies related to safety.  Performs work safely and without injury to self or others. Identifies hazards or dangerous behaviors in the environment and takes immediate action to avoid, mitigate or eliminate, and report hazardous conditions or unsafe behaviors.  Ensures the safety of self, residents/consumers, co-workers, families, guardians and visitors at all times.

12.  Punctuality and regular attendance at the work-site, including required extra hours,  are essential functions of the job in order to ensure safe and appropriate levels of care for our residents at all times.  Adheres to attendance policy.  Reports to work on time as scheduled.  Completes required training on time and regularly attends staff meetings.

13.  Projects a professional appearance and a willing, positive, courteous expression in performing tasks.  Cooperates with fellow workers, supervisors, residents, visitors in performing tasks.

14.  Ensure compliance with all federal and state rules and regulations.  Complete other duties as assigned by the Supervisor/Program Director.
