About the Job


Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy, National Registration, State licensed, one year of therapeutic intervention/experience with people who are developmentally disabled.  For purposes of effective communication with residents, families and staff must be able to see, hear, speak, read and write English.  Maintain the ability to stretch, push, pull, kneel, reach, twist, walk and stand for up to sixteen (16)  hours, up to three (3) times per week and  to perform the physical requirements of Safety Care.  Must demonstrate the ability to lift unassisted at least fifty (50) lbs.



Job Duties

1.     Perform all job responsibilities in accordance with State and federal regulations as evidenced by positive resident outcomes and survey results.

2.     Complete annual Physical Therapy evaluations and quarterly progress reports for each resident and submit to Coordinator of Support Services.

3.     Design and implement orientation and inservice training, Complete the Physical Management section of wrap-up at each ICF following orientations.

4.     Attend and actively participate in support plan meetings, case studies and tracking for all residents.

5.     Supervise the delivery of Physical Therapy services to residents performed by the Direct Service Professional (DSP) and Therapy Technician, including repositioning and other programs as indicated in the support plan.

6.     Purchase, distribute and supervise the use of all Physical Therapy equipment called for in the resident’s support plan.

7.     Provide consultative services with community clients at Day Programs/group homes as requested.  Also provide consultative services for ICF residents as requested by Program Directors. Implement and monitor physical management programs at these settings.


8.     Supervise Therapeutic Equipment Technician and Therapy Technician.

9.      Develop and monitor physical management programs, therapeutic equipment, range of motion programs, ambulation programs, repositioning and lifting/transfer procedures


10.  Attend quarterly Safety meetings. Provide safety report which includes but is not limited to osteoporosis programs, mechanical lifters, therapeutic equipment, use of draw sheets and repositioning programs at each ICF.


11.  Implement and monitor osteoporosis programs.


12.  Measure residents for wheelchairs, individual positioning devices and therapeutic equipment. Order wheelchairs and therapeutic equipment.


13.  Ensures residents’ rights and promotes optimal quality of life standards.  Reports any incident of abuse in accordance with facility procedure and the Disabled Persons Abuse Negligence Act.  Adheres to policies related to boundaries with individuals. Attends required abuse risk management training. Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.  Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising individuals.

14.  Demonstrates understanding of, and complies with, all policies related to safety.  Performs work safely and without injury to self or others.  Identifies hazards or dangerous behaviors in the environment and takes immediate action to avoid, mitigate or eliminate, and report hazardous conditions or unsafe behaviors.  Ensures the safety of self, residents/consumers, co-workers, families, guardians and visitors at all times.

15.  Project a professional appearance and a willing, positive and courteous expression in performing tasks.  Cooperates with fellow workers, supervisors, residents, visitors, etc. in performing tasks.

16.  Continue professional development by attending workshops and seminars, maintaining valid state license and participating in professional organizations.

17.  Punctuality and regular attendance at the work site, including required extra hours, are essential functions of the job.  Adheres to attendance policy.  Reports to work on times as scheduled.  Completes required training on time and regularly attends staff meetings.

18.  Ensure compliance with all federal and state rules and regulations.  Complete other duties as assigned.
